The Feast of Saint Alban, First Martyr in Britain, c. 209

At Trinity, we celebrate the Holy Eucharist each Wednesday morning at 11:30 a.m. Unless there is an important feast for that day, we choose a saint who is commemorated that week who speaks to something important happening in our community or in the larger world. This morning we remembered Alban, a Roman soldier who was martyred in Britain for his faith in Christ. The Prayer after Communion today seemed especially timely to us:

Prayer after Communion

Eternal God, whose loving-kindness is better than life itself, kindle our hearts with the spirit of mercy that we, keeping the feast of Alban, may also keep his holy example and take up the cause of those who seek our protection. This we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
